Holiday Renovations. Is Now a Good Time to Hire a Contractor?

While the holidays may seem like an odd time to start renovating your house, you would be surprised at how much can be done in a short amount of time – leaving you able to enjoy (and host) your traditional holiday parties in the manner that you always have.

When Is Too Late?

The trick when deciding what to renovate around the holidays depends largely on the time frame involved. If you are planning on completely gutting your kitchen and still want to host your holiday dinner 5 days later, well, obviously, that will not work. However, a smaller interior renovation, for example, switching out old appliances for new ones, installing a new sink, or resurfacing your cabinets, can all work within a very short time frame.

What Areas Can I Work On?

Another thing to consider during this time of the year is a renovation on a part of your home that has nothing to do with your holiday plans. If you do not intend on using your basement for any holiday-related reason, then you can turn it into a man cave, office, or your dream recreation room during the holiday season without it affecting any of your plans. However, if you plan on celebrating the holidays at other peoples’ homes, and are not hosting anything, then it does not matter, and you can go right ahead with those renovation plans, no matter what room they take place in, as long as you do not mind living with a little dust and debris.

One thing to keep in mind before setting a time frame and going through with your plans is the people doing the work. They will need time off to celebrate the holidays with their friends and family, just like you will, so make sure to be flexible and add on extra time for the work to be completed.
